An almost weekly assortment of musical oddities purchased by or given to POF.
BIG FICTION – S/T LP (kills you) – Local HC meet noise act from Arlington with a hand numbered out of 300 with liner notes and silkscreen sleeved cover; pressed by Kills You Records out of Austin. Available directly from the band or at Trailer Space Records in Austin.
CRYSTAL CASTLES – S/T 2 12″ (fiction) – Double LP
DAN SARTAIN – Dan Sartain Lives (one little indian) – “Blending lo-fi rockabilly with retro-garage rock, Dan Sartain’s third release’s sonic finesse shines through the raw grit that’s layered on top of foot stomping beats and aching voice.” Playing in Dallas at The Nightmare on August 21st.
DAVILLA 666/DIRTBOMBS – Split 7″ (vice/scion) – Third in a series of promo only garage rock split 7″s released by Vice & Scion. I will be giving one of these away on an upcoming newsletter.
DRUNKDRIVER – Self Titled LP (self) – Heavy pressed vinyl from recently defunct underground NYC HC act.
GUN OUTFIT – Possession Sound (dim mak) – 2nd full length from Olympia Washington trio.
MISS TK & The REVENGE – The Ocean Likes to Party Too (ernest jennings) – “New Jersey sextet whose combination of disco-punk and new wave create the perfect party soundtrack for summer. The Ocean Likes To Party Too is a lascivious electro-pop record that is evocative of Blondie, !!! and a little ESG with surf, hip hop and funk blended throughout. Focusing around Miss TK’s seductive yet ambrosial vocals, which are reminiscent of a smoother version of Gwen Stephani and a less abrasive M.I.A., their beach party theme is like an updated, twisted version of the 1950’s teen beach movie soundtracks – much more sexy and much more sinister.”
MOGWAI – Batcat 12″ (matador)
The SANDWITCHES – Duck Duck Goose 12″ (secret seven/empty cellar) – One sided four song ep from a very much hyped San Francisco.
STARRING – Wife of God 12″ (death by audio) – Hand-numbered out of 100. Silkscreen sleeve. Features members of $keletons and Pterodactyl.
WEEN – Live in Toronto Canada 12″ (schnitzel) – Double lp taken from an October 23rd 1996 show at The Phoenix.
WOODSMAN – Mystery Tape LP (lefse) – review coming later.
XRY – S/T Ep (self) – San Antonio crust duo plows through the crowd while singing… not sure how it will translate to CD, but they are coming back to Dallas on Sept 2nd w/ Muhammed Ali and Leg Sweeper (at the cavern).
