An almost weekly assortment of musical oddities purchased or given to POF. Since I acquired a lot of goodies in the past few days, I wanted to squeeze this post in before I left for SXSW.
AIR WAVES – S/T (catbird) – Indie folk-punk singer/songwriter’s 5 song debut ep.
BLACKTUSK – Passage Through Purgatory cd/dvd (hyperrealist)
BLACKTUSK/The HOLY MOUNTAIN – Split 7″ (no idea) – 1st pressing, gray.
DDMMYYYY – Blue Screen of Death/Journey to and Escape from the Fortress of the Fluffy love Cloud (wearebusybodies)
DDMMYYYY – Black Square (wearebusybodies) – 2nd full length by Toronto experimental 5 piece that frantically mixes bass, guitar, various synthesizers, multiple singers, live and programed drums and even saxophone. Date/Month/Year can be simply labeled as math rock; but with catchy noise hooks and sneering vocals. They are more concise and focused on this release: the first album featured 25 tracks, Black Square only 12. Less snippets of clutter and more traditional ‘songs’.
DOOMED NATION – Issue Three DVD (self) – Includes videos by Baroness, G.G. Allin, Idian, Blacktusk, Facedowninshit, Goatwhore, Rwake and Black Cobra. Hand numbered.
FEMME COVERT/BLACK CAT #13 – Split 7″ (crunk punx) – Silkscreened polyvinyl bag/cover. limited to 305 copies and stamped number. Bootleg split recently put out by Femme Covert. Features two unreleased tracks by Black Cat #13, recorded back in 2000 and two by Femme Covert from 2006. Members of Black Cat #13 went on to bands like The Sick Lipstick and Death From Above 1979.
KYLESA – Unknown Awareness 7″ (hyperrealist)
The SICK LIPSTICK – S/T (sound virus)
MARNIE STERN – In Advance of the Broken Arm (killrockstars)
