Dullass Nights

// The weekly run around from our run-down concertgoer.

19 May 2014

I don’t like Mondays. It’s very early. My colleagues are talking about a picture of Michael Jackson’s nude corpse.

Sounds like I dropped the ball and missed Linear Downfall at Doublewide last night. I’m sure they had the place jumping around like a bunch of Kansas City faggots. Shout out to my buddy for letting me know about the show right after it ended.

There have been some recent announcements. I’m excited that Marissa Nadler will play City Tavern July 14th, been listening to her all weekend. I may finally see Swans play at a gay bar called Trees on June 26th. I’m glad to hear that The Chloes have been added to The courtneys show at City Tavern on June 8th especially the drummer.

So there’s some metal shows this week in Dullass. First of all, you can bring your sleeveless jackets and headbands to Castle at Three Links tomorrow night. Then Skid Row will be at Trees Saturday and you can really get your face in it. Hell, I’d go watch Skid Row for five or six minutes if it were free. On Sunday Saint Vitus and Sons of Huns play Three Links, which sounds like a legitimately good show. But not for twenty bucks. Whatever.

Quaker City Night Hawks at Three Links sounds like a nice laidback show for three bucks on Thursday night. I expect their combination of heavy blues, Memphis soul, and Texas boogie to go down easy with a couple drinks before starting the weekend.

I have to admit that I am most excited for Eagulls and Twin Peaks at Three Links on Friday. I cannot quit listening to that bummed out post-punk LP from the Eagulls and same goes for that great pop sing-along album from Twin Peaks. No idea how I haven’t seen either of these bands play yet but I will be there Friday. But depending on set times I may find myself running back and forth between Dada and Three Links because OFF! and Cerebral Ballzy will be putting on a hell of a show that same night.

Finally, French Horn Rebellion will be playing a free show at The Foundry on Saturday night. There have been many great free shows at The Foundry over the past several weeks but this may be the best one. Fans of Cut Copy and Tycho should definitely make it out to what will surely be a fun show from this upbeat electronic pop band.

Until next week.
