3/17/09 – MARNIE STERN, DD/MM/YYYY (Toronto), MEDICATIONS & EDIE SEDWICK – The Lounge on Elm St. Doors at 8pm. $8 for 21+, $10 for under 21
Other than Boris, because I can’t tell the gender of the band members, Marnie Stern is the only woman who has a legitimate reason to perform with a double-neck guitar. Her latest (and stellar) release This Is It and I Am It and You Are It and So Is That and He Is It and She Is It and It Is It and That Is That, (kill rock stars), is an album that revolves around elements of winners versus losers and definitely caters to fans of Deerhoof, Hella, Erase Errata and even Parts & Labor. Marnie Stern has a sweet voice to accompany catchy lyrics with insane guitar picking and playing. She sings songs and plays riffs that get stuck in your head all day.

Also on the bill is Canadian experimental outfit with an odd name, DD/MM/YYYY, who are out in support of their newest album, Black Squares (we are busy bodies). Opening the show is the disco-transgendered Dischord (DC) act Edie Sedgwick, who I had play at the Lounge back in November, with Medications in tow.
