Albums just keeps pouring in this summer… An almost weekly assortment of musical oddities purchased by or given to POF.
BORIS/TORCHE– Split 10″ (hydra head) – Two lengthy tracks from Boris & Torche. Pressed on various colors from black to purple to orange. Torche is playing at The Nightmare on September 23rd with Garuda & White Mountain.
EARLY GRAVES – Goner (ironclad) – I literally got this five days prior to their lead singer dying on Monday morning (8/2/10) when their van flipped in Oregon. I had them slated to play Dallas in September.
ISIS/MELVINS – Split 12″ (hyrda head) – Probably the final two studio tracks from the recently broken-up ISIS?
LAND Of TALK – Cloak & Cipher (saddle creek) – Playing at The Nightmare on October 16th with SUUNS. “The follow up to 2008’s critically adored debut LP Some Are Lakes, Cloak and Cipher’s ten tracks mark an electric step forward for the band musically and sonically.” Free MP3 of “Swift Coin” courtesy of Saddle Creek.
NAILS – Unsilent death 12″ (streetcleaner) and Obscene Humanity 12″ (sixfeetunder) – Featuring member of TERROR, Nails is a grind-hardcore trio that seems to be touring for the rest of this year. Like Italy’s The Secret, NAILS has also signed with Southern Lord to strengthen their roster.
RESIDUAL ECHOES – Firsts ep (?) – Download here. Touring with Happy Birthday, which stops this week in Dallas on August 5th.
SKELETONWITCH – Worship The Witch 10″ (prosthetic) – Establish Ohio black trash metal act, release a limited edition four song 10″ on black (500), blue (200), yellow (200), green (100) and clear vinyl (100).
The SECRET – Disintoxication (goodfellow) – Recently signed to Southern Lord, Italy’s The Secret punches you in the face and walks away; unlike most of Southern Lord’s roster of slow, cathartic metal that takes five to ten minutes to ‘get to the point’. Touring this Fall.
TERA MELOS – Patagonian Rats (sargent house) – This math-jazz punk assemblage has been on daily rotation upon receipt; especially the tracks “The Skin Surf” and “Frozen Zoo”. Initially, I listened to Patagonian Rats in its entirety to absorb what this Roseville, CA trio was trying to accomplish. Going through a myriad of lineup changes since their inception, did not deter Tera Melos from creating one of the most experimental, yet cohesive, math & jazz infusions this year. Should be appreciated by fans of Don Caballero, Fang Island, Hella, and Russian Circles. Comes out September 7th. MP3 of “Frozen Zoo“. Video of “The Skin Surf”:
THOU – multiple releases – Baton Rouge/New Orleans sludge-doom metal band has been touring relentlessly and slowly gaining the attention they deserve; even being featured on NPR this week. DOWNLOAD the majority of their discography here: http://noladiy.org/thou.html
