New sh!t since the last time…
MINI MANSIONS – EP (self) – Mini Mansions stands on its own merits despite the credentials of being fronted by the very talented Michael Shuman; current bassist for Queens of the Stone Age) and founding member of early 2000 Los Angeles punk band, Wires on Fire. Opening cut “Majik Marker” also appears on their full length debut.
MINI MANSIONS – Monk 7” (psychedelic judasim) – B/w a unique cover of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass”.
MINI MANSIONS – S/T (rekords/ipecac)
NAILS – Unsilent Death LP (southern lord) – A 14-minute metal driven grindcore assault on your ear drums and soul. I am a total nerd for rebuying this album, but I wanted the gatefold edition from Southern Lord; original version on Six Feet Under Records.
OFF! – First Four Eps 7” box (vice) – “Supergroup” illustrated by artist Raymond Pettibon and the superb combination of dreaded punk legend Keith Morris of Circle Jerks, Dimitri Coats of Burning Brides, Steven McDonald Of Redd Kross and Mario Rubalcaba of Earthless, Hot Snakes & Rocket From the Crypt. The Four 7”s probably could have been squeezed onto Two 7”s since all the material clocks in at less than 18 minutes. Sucks to have to keep getting up to flip each record after only 2 minutes. The four records come in a box and it includes a 12-page full color booklet with liner notes, lyrics, photos and more artwork by Raymond Pettibon.
The SECRET – Solve Et Coagula LP (southern lord) – The exceptionally depraved and wicked The SECRET from Italy assimilate multiple genres of hardcore while never deterring too far in one direction and becoming stale. Not for everyone, but nothing should be. Look for them to tour in 2011. Brown vinyl; unsure of pressing, but180gm version currently available.
