An almost weekly assortment of musical oddities purchased by or given to POF.
COOLZEY – The Honey (public school) – Midwest hip-hop with more lyrical diversity and self-created beats than expected. Playing at the Cavern on Feb 24th. MP3 of “The Honey”
FUCKED UP – Couple Tracks (matador) – Two disc/lp set compiles all their hard-to-find b-sides and covers from 7”s, 12”s and cassettes since their inception. Longtime fans will be thrilled that they don’t have to dig up their vinyl to hear these tracks, some of which are stronger than their A-Sides. The album cover is almost identical to their first collection, 2003’s Epic In Minutes (deranged); they took a band photo then (for epic) and now for Couple Tracks. Look at the covers side-by-side to see how the band aged.
FUCKED UP – Couple Tracks/Heir Apparent 7″ (matador) – Bonus available with purchase of Couple Tracks. Lyrics on sleeve.
GIRLS – Laura/Oh Boy 7” (true panther) – 1000 pressed, hand-numbered
SCREAMING FEMALES – Singles (don Giovanni) – CDEP of five “Singles” issued on 7″s over the years. Playing at the Lounge on Elm St February 15th with Jeff the Brotherhood.
SMALL BLACK/WASHED OUT – Split 7” (lovepump united) – Both acts remix each other’s songs.
The UNITED NATIONS – S/T (eyeball) – A “secret” screamo supergroup with Jeff of Thursday. MP3 of “Cash Register”
The WILLOWZ – Everyone (dim mak/downtown) – Vintage sounding, catchy garage pop rock saturated with “luscious harmonies.” The Willowz continue to be successful with their formula of harmonies plus rock; which has yet to grow stale. Produced, recorded and mixed by Stuart Sikes.
WORK/PILES – Piles/Work 12” (self) – Two noise-driven male and female guitar/drum/vocal duos from San Francisco. 500 pressed. Silk-screened front and back of album cover. Bands feature former members of 16 Bitch Pile Up and Numbers.
