An almost weekly assortment of musical oddities purchased by or given to POF.

HOWLFull of Hell (relapse) – Providence, RI’s HOWL toured for almost two years to develop and hone their sound for their debut, Full of Hell.

PAPER MICEPaint It Pink LP (cassette deck) – Discovered Paper Mice based on an endorsement from All Leather, who played a show with them on their most recent tour. Chicago trio of music teachers perform sixteen post-punk (at times math/experimental) rock songs in a quick span of only 25 minutes. The lyrical witty album includes originals such as “Pencil In My Head”, “Burning Down the Mouse” and “I Want to go to Prison” as well as fan favorites “Wmg” and the album title track “Paint It Pink” (mocking of Rolling Stones “Paint It Black.”) Humor aside, this is some serious shit that rocks and I cannot wait to see their live performance of said material. The album’s tracks range from one minute of DC-Dischord inspired chaos to two-minute long tenacious punk songs. Silk-screened LP Sleeve, 4-color CD, insert and liner notes were printed and designed by DANIMAL, who states: “All the songs are about really absurd, real life stories that he read in the news (and their) band name is referring to different comic book mouse characters.”

RUN DMTBong Voyage and Get Ripped or Die Trying (self) – In anticipation for their upcoming releases on Woodsist and Wigflip Records, Run Dmt offer up two free downloads. Get Ripped or Die Trying is a Twenty-Two minute single-track of experimental/improvisational assemblage of all things Run DMT. Touring with Not Not Fun records alumni, Blissed Out.

SLEIGH BELLSTreats (n.e.e.t) – Yes, they deserve the hype. Poison the Well’s guitarist, female singer and production by M.I.A. create eleven off-the-wall grimy meets indie pop tracks that will be on everyone’s summer mix tape. Not sure their ability to sustain longevity . . . but the overall this album is highly recommended.

THEE OH SEESWarm Slime (in the red) – I lost count of how many albums John Dwyer has released over the past ten years. His never ending catalog of awesomeness continues with Seven experimental psychedelic garage pop songs, with the final track a 13 minute jam.

TITUS ANDRONICUSFeats of Strengths (self) – Available free from Titus Andronicus’ website. A sixteen-song compilation of “unofficial, fan-made collection of demos, b-sides, and live tracks during the “Airing of Grievances” era of Titus Andronicus (pre-2010)”

WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH – Peaced 12″ (monofonus press) – Five song EP by Austin 5 piece grunge noise ensemble.

WOVEN BONES In And Out And Back Again (hozac) – Already leaked debut full length from Austin lo-fi garage rock.
