Ten in 2010: I casually asked a few associates for their best albums of the year, “10 or so with words or without.” No rules really. These compiled lists provide genuine fodder for my website during the holiday lull. They will go up when I get them, till the end of the year; which started with mine. Enjoy. I’m pretty sure these all came out in the ’10. Honestly it was a little hard for me to find 10 albums that came out this year that I felt it would make me look cool for listening to. So here’s what I came up with.
10 of 10 in ’10: (whatever order)
Woods– At Echo Lake
Why I Like It: it’s like listening to the shins’ younger, cooler, pot-smoking brothers jamz
Purling Hiss– Hissteria
WILI: heavy. riffy. catchy. mind numbingly spacey. also happen to be just really nice dudes that gave me the album
High On Fire – Snakes for the Divine
WILI: f*ck me with a chainsaw.
Moon Duo – Escape
WILI: if you’re out of drugs you can listen to this to get messed up. beautiful mindmush
Electric Wizard– Black Masses
WILI: sabbathy witch jams. NO FEAR
Fang Island – S/T
WILI: sometimes life can bring you some pretty bad moods and this album says K.I.P.
The Fresh & Onlys– Grey Eyed Girl
WILI: i’ve been trying to think of a reason I like this album for a whole day now and I can’t. but it does have guitars
Bison B.C.– Dark Ages
WILI: it forces the ol death-by-lightning-shooting-out-of-the-guitar visual that I hope to see happen someday
Torche– Songs for Singles
WILI: after an amazing album like Meanderthal, making the next group of songs extra raw and deliciously rough is the damn perfect move
Valient Thorr– Stranger
WILI: just not your typical party metal. mathy-like timings that are still totally, unabashedly, headbangable. Keepin the faith
